Application Process and Participation
If you would like to apply for a HRSFANS summer grant, please submit the HRSFANS Summer Grant Internship application (download the Word document) as an attachment by email to grants@hrsfans.org. The deadline for application is 11:59 PM on March 1st. In order to complete the application, you will need:
- A clear plan of action for how you intend to spend your summer, and under whose supervision. Thus we will ask you to submit a copy of your completed application to the summer program for which you are seeking support. You need not have already been accepted to the program in order to apply for funding to us, but if you have been, please let us know.
- A carefully-considered projection of your financial needs for the summer. We will ask you to submit a preliminary budget in which you explain how you plan to spend the funds you are requesting. We understand that you may not have access to all the pertinent financial details at the time you make your application, but we ask you to do some research and provide us with your best educated guesses.
- A resume. We don't expect you to have extensive prior experience in your area of interest for the summer, but we would like to know what your background is.
- One letter of recommendation (download the Word document) from a teacher or mentor who knows you well enough to attest to your responsibility and creativity. Your recommender may optionally submit a recommendation in the format of his or her choice.
- We also encourage you to submit a sample of original work pertinent to your proposal for summer study. This might include a sample of fiction writing (either a free-standing piece or a selection from a longer work), a description for a game design, or something else that you consider appropriate. Please keep your original work sample to a maximum of 15 double-spaced pages.
We are happy to accept multiple applications from a student who is applying for more than one appropriate program.
We expect to notify grant recipients during the month of March. We encourage you to let us know of any change to the application status of your internship in the meantime.
